Richard William Wheater - Light, magic and love
“Filling glass with inert gas and exciting it with electricity, creating your own light in the wilderness is a very god-like thing”
Did you know that during the 1940s, Leeds was the only place in the north of England making neon signs? The city streets must have been aglow with light. Richard William Wheater continues this tradition into the present day from his workshops in Wakefield.
Trained at Edinburgh School of Art, Alfred University in New York and in Sunderland, Richard is one of the artists behind the ambitious project ‘Twelve Months of Neon Love.’
Wheater is fearless, passionate and energetic about his work and takes his medium into installation, performance and the landscape.
He is coming to share this energy at Creative Networks on Thursday 29th September 2011
