Activ8 Leeds Ltd

Activ8 is a community and advocacy organisation working with individuals and groups throughout the UK who are excluded from mainstream services. Activ8 has evolved into introducing and offering technology and new methodology for improving the standard of education in developing countries especially Africa. It also facilitates training for teachers and education administrators abroad. Activ8 Leeds Ltd are unique in being the first (and only) not-for-profit social enterprise to be based in The Unit.

The organisation was set up by Tosin Okuzu who previously worked as an advocate in North London where she supported under-privileged members of the community, with an emphasis on the welfare of children and families.
Tosin's advocacy experience spans two decades and two continents, having also worked in Africa and the USA.

Keen to support the local community, Tosin regularly participates in the Cancer Research ‘Race for Life' event. She also does charitable work in Africa and recently presented a PS2 games console to children in Africa. The gift was donated by Liz Cable of Reach Further, one of The Unit's ‘Friend' businesses.

Activ8Leeds Ltd provide a wide range of advocacy and support services, but insist on maintaining their independence from other public service providers. Activ8 offer mediation services for employees both in government and public sector, family and community disputes and conflicting parties. It also supports people experiencing difficulty in accessing community, health and other facilities in their area, along with prison visits and supporting offenders soon to be released into the community.

Activ8 Leeds has received a letter of praise from Government Minister Hilary Benn commending its services:

"I am impressed to see the range of support that you are offering and was touched by the testimonials from those people who have been helped by what you are doing."

Activ8 Leeds Ltd operate from The Unit, Leeds City College which Tosin describes as "an excellent business environment."
