Despite the recession one Unit-based business Indigo Car Hire have found their bookings have actually increased. Company Director Cherie Walker believes this is partly due to corporate clients trying to cut down on overheads. "In the current economic climate many businesses have had to tighten their belts, meaning reducing the number of company cars they have. This puts us in an excellent position because we're not restricted to just one supplier and we are therefore able check each customer's individual requirements against the local market to provide the best price possible."

Indigo's services are also being used by members of the public who are turning to car hire as a way of cutting their household budget.

Like many start-up businesses, Indigo started out as a niche company, dealing mainly in car hire for the ex-pat market in Spain. However, as the company has grown, they are now breaking into new markets in other countries, and also providing other services such as van rental and long term car leasing.

Over 20 years experience in the car hire and leasing industry.

What Major Challenges did you face as a start-up business?

To compete in an extremely competitive market. We overcame this by marketing our business as a one to one service to the correct market audience.

What advice would you give to anyone thinking of setting up in business?

Do as much research as possible and make sure you have strong foundations in place. To be able to run your own business you need to be committed, hardworking, honest, self motivated, open minded and willing to learn.
