Bailey Hunter Ltd is a new specialist legal recruitment service based in Leeds. Having already established relationships with numerous clients, private practice, from niche small to medium-sized practices to large national firms, and in-house legal departments the company is set to go from strength to strength in 2010 and beyond.

What inspired you to set up your business?

Having worked really hard as an employee for others in legal recruitment for the last 7 years and 3 years as a Solicitor prior to that, I had wanted to set up my own for some time and when my Grandma died recently and left me some money I felt it was the ideal way to invest the money by setting up my own business in what I know best; legal recruitment. I decided to name the company Bailey Hunter using my Grandma's maiden name of Bailey.

How has being at The Unit helped you?

I learnt about The Unit at Park Lane House through the Leeds CHamber of Commerce website and it looked the ideal starting point for my company. I was impressed by the modern office premises, support mechanisms, including mentors, regular business seminars and workshops provided and also the city centre location. I presented my business plan to the 'Dragon's Den' and was really excited when I was offered a place.

What wisdom would you share with people wanting to start their own busines?

You need to surround yourself with experienced, like-minded people you can learn from and share ideas with so as not to become isolated as it is hard to always remain focused and motivated when you work on your own. You also need to be prepared to work harder than you ever have before. The Unit is the ideal environment for any new start-up business in Leeds.
